The VMAs last night were absolute fire, but what really stole the show was the drama between Sabrina Carpenter, Camila Cabello, and Shawn Mendes, theygossip.com reports.

Yeah, that’s right- the love triangle that keeps on giving showed up hard, and everyone’s convinced their performances were majorly about each other.

The real plot twist? There’s this whole funeral vibe going on. First, Shawn had everyone buzzing when he posted on Insta before the show, saying, “Pulling up to my own funeral.” Like, what?!

But wait, it gets weirder. In Sabrina’s music video for “Taste,” she’s literally attending her ex-BF’s funeral, alongside his new GF. Coincidence? Nah, we don’t think so.

Then Camila comes in with her own take. While chatting with Billboard about her VMA look, she dropped some cryptic tea.

“I’m kind of having a funeral today for everything negative, everything that doesn’t serve me. Death to the things that bring you down, the people and situations that hold you back, “ she said.

Ohhh, okay girl, we see you-clearly, there’s more going on here than meets the eye.

So, what’s the connection here? Clearly, Shawn and Camila are both burning their past together-but wait.

Are they low-key making Sabrina look like the villain just because she dropped “Taste”? Nah, Sabrina isn’t the bad guy here-she’s just giving us what we’ve all been dying for.

Sure, she might’ve spilled some tea and bruised some egos, but come on, the girl was in a sistuationship and did what she had to do. Forgive and forget, right?

It’s not every day we see pop stars who were recently in a love triangle all show up at the VMAs and basically sing their feelings for each other, but thank the music gods we got this one.

Drama, romance, chaos-what more could we ask for?

Oh, and if you didn’t know, Sabrina just dropped her highly-anticipated sixth album, Short n’ Sweet, in August, and let’s just say a few of the tracks definitely reference her whirlwind thing with Shawn before he went running back to Camila.

So yeah, the VMAs are known for their drama, but this year? Straight-up iconic. Here’s the breakdown of Shawn, Camila, and Sabrina’s performances and how they all reacted to each other on stage. Buckle up-it’s a wild ride!

Shawn Mendes’ Performance

Shawn debuted a new song last night titled ‘Nobody Knows’.

“When you’re so in love / And your souls touch / But it’s still not enough / Where does it go?” I mean, ouch.

Since Shawn’s said before that all his songs are inspired by Camila, it’s pretty safe to assume this one’s about their on-again, off-again love story, too.

It feels like he’s singing about the heartbreak of their failed attempt at getting back together-like, they were so close, but something still wasn’t *quite right*.

Honestly, it’s devastating. And what makes it even more heartbreaking? We didn’t get to see Camila’s reaction to his emotional performance.

Imagine the tension in the room if she’d been caught on camera during that moment… Ugh, we live for this kind of drama.

We did dive a little bit deeper into the lyrics only to discover that the song reflects on a love that feels deep and powerful, yet still falls short of being enough to last.

It questions where that love goes when everything feels right but ultimately fades away.

Camila Cabello’s Performance

Shawn’s muse on the other hand hit us with a performance of “Godspeed” from the deluxe version of her album C, XOXO.

But before we could catch our breath, she totally faked us out by starting with a clip of her singing “ June Gloom”, the song everyone’s convinced is about her Coachella reunion with Shawn.

Then, in a symbolic plot twist, she transitioned into “Godspeed”, basically telling us she’s so done with that romantic chapter.

We did do a deeper dive into the song lyrics and we discovered that the track reflects on letting of a past relationship, feeling out of place in the present while longing for peace and closure.

It expresses a desire to move on, wishing the other person well but from a distance.

Sabrina Carpenter’s Performance

Sabrina wowed the crowd with a vibrant mix of “Please Please Please,” “Espresso,” and the most Shawn-and-Camila-inspired song, “Taste.”

During the “Taste” part, she brought out an astronaut and a light blue alien, clearly hinting at her ex and his new girlfriend-such a bold move!

And because Sabrina is just that girl, she even kissed the alien on stage! It was delightfully silly in the best way.

Of course, MTV disappointed us again by not showing Shawn or Camila’s reactions; we really wanted to see that drama!
